Designing the right equestrian fencing for you

Horses are beautiful, amazing creatures. They can be our team mates. Our best friends.

But every horse owner knows that horses also seem to have the knack of finding a way to hurt themselves, at times.

That’s why it’s important to protect them with fencing that is designed specifically for the special requirements of horses.

At PF Install Solutions, we have the unique understanding of horses that only comes with spending decades owning and working with them.

The reality of owning horses is that paddock fencing is just the beginning. Often, horse owners need additional items such as arenas, day yards, round yards, stables, wash bays and feed sheds.

Before designing your ideal horse complex, it’s important to ask the following questions:

  • What is the core purpose of the facility?

  • How often or how heavily will the facility be used or relied upon?

  • Are there any special requirements of the facility? For example, disabled access, vet bays etc.

Once you have the answer to these important questions, it’s time to start designing!

At PF Install Solutions, we make sure we consider the following during the design phase:

  • Budget considerations

  • Flow of movement

  • Consideration of working with other trades onsite

We always have to be flexible during a job as variables become apparent as the project comes together. As a business, we understand that we have to be able to make changes and think on our feet to ensure the end result is one that the client is completely happy with.

We design and build a variety of different stable types:

Public stable facilities

These stables are usually built for council facilities, show societies, pony clubs and racecourses that hold equestrian events such as show jumping, show horses, camp drafting, rodeos, pony club camps and events. These stables are generally fully enclosed and roofed and don’t have a day yard. They usually are built in quantities of 20 and up.

Station/Feedlot stables

These stables are usually open, two to three rails, have a day yard, and a basic roof and back wall. These stables generally built-in quantities of 10 and up.

Private stables

These stables a generally built in a variety of shapes and sizes and are often customised to cater to the client. They are usually built-in quantities of one to 20. Larger facilities can include everything from tack rooms and feed rooms to wash bays, outer day yards and arenas.

We recently completed a large private equestrian facility where a lot of considerations were made for working in and around existing infrastructure.

This job consisted of eight large grass yards, a sand riding arena, laneways, fitting out of tack room and installation of prefabricated stables.

Another job we completed was the Clermont Showgrounds stable upgrade.

This job was for 80 stables under four separate, roofed rows. We were able to produce a prefabricated panel system to deliver this project within budget and still provide a very user-friendly end product. The stables were fully fabricated at our shed in Toowoomba and trucked to Clermont for installation.
